WYnet Togo trip

We met many people that are involved with the project and seeing that the team visiting brought great joy to them because knowing that we can take time to visit and help out is a big thing to them. The smiles on their faces when we met them was great and meant a lot to them that people abroad do care about them and the project.

In Bassar, Togo (west Africa) there is a team of translators working towards making the Bible available to their community in the langauge they understand best (Ncham). In 2011 WYnet is sending a team to meet these translators, to encourage them and to learn from them and help in the work of bringing God's Word to the community.

Togo Stories

I loved going on the trip to Togo, so many new experiences made. I have always wanted to go to an African church and being in Africa that dream came true! Overall we went to 7 churches on our trip and all of them were amazing. One thing that hit me most was that they didn't care what the people around them thought and just worshipped God so freely. They would dance,sing, pray and not care what they sounded/looked like because they were praising God, it was only for him and not for the people around them. The smiles on their faces when they were worshipping was so great to see because even though they don't have luxuries like us they still have things to smile about like having God as our Creator and Father. Seeing how much work goes into getting the Bible to these people, and how much work goes into the translation I now appreciate my Bible so much more and God’s really motivated me to read it more since the trip!
It was a great encouragement seeing and greeting the people out there who are so friendly! It was an honour to be accepted and welcomed by them into there churches!

It was an amazing trip. I learnt lots and really saw how great the Bible is to people in their own language. Their churches were amazing; we knew that God was there, even when we didn't understand. Everyone was so excited when we were able to tell them that the New Testament was reduced in price; we saw 210 copies sold.
Whilst I was out there I was really challenged, that I need to persevere more, in life, but also in my praying. For instance my highlight of the whole trip was climbing the mountain; it wasn’t easy but worthwhile and rewarding at the end.

The trip was, well, amazing! So many highlights...even the lowlights were awesome as without them, it wouldn't have been the same, also during them God was challenging me to perservere!
Some of my highlights had to have been Kara (a nearby city) and our trip to the Bassar Gospel Radio station where we sang on the radio!
I have learnt so much from the trip and I just praise God for that...I've grown in knowledge of myself and God, and have learnt to appreciate so many things SO much more!...one of them being carpet! Random I know!
So all in all, it was a pretty amazing trip!

What struck me most about Togo was how friendly everyone was there. It really gave me a kick that when I waved madly out of the minibus windows, people smiled and waved back and didn't just give me a weird look. People were just all generally friendly, which was awesome.
I loved the way they do church out there. The worship was amazing, just dancing and not caring what you looked like because no-one else did, it was all for God, not for anyone else. Seeing the people out there and how few luxuries they have had a real impact on me. I had been going through a bit of a rough patch before going out there, but seeing these people, perfectly content with their life and with that much less than me was a real challenge, and made my problems seem far more insignificant than before. Meeting Samuel was a good example of this, because he was having to work two jobs, and he was doing extra work that he wasn't being paid for in the translation project, but you could always see him with a smile on his face, ready to tease Richie!
